PUTRAJAYA: Telcos should consider lowering broadband charges for subscribers in rural areas and new villages as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR).

Information, Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said broadband rates in these areas should be lowered from the current charges of between RM38 and RM58, as the telcos continued to make profits.

He was speaking to reporters after opening a conference on opportunities in broadband ICT, in Cyberjaya near here, Tuesday.
