GEORGE TOWN: Police detained 21 Chinese nationals who were working as guest relations officers (GROs) at an entertainment centre in Pulau Tikus.

North-East district police chief ACP Gan Kong Meng said the women were detained during an operation code-named Ops Noda.

They were all in their 20s, ACP Gan added. It ended at about 5am yesterday.

“Police also detained a local man, believed to be the caretaker at the entertainment centre,” he told reporters here.

He said the centre, which had iron grilles and tightly monitored by “tontos” (lookout men), had been raided several times previously. — Bernama
