PETALING JAYA: Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin has challenged Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to a debate on the economy.

This was after Anwar himself challenged Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to an open debate next week over his comments that Pakatan Rakyat’s goals could lead the nation to bankruptcy.

Khairy, who is also Rembau MP, tweeted yesterday that Anwar was not at the same level with Najib.

“Lawan Ketua Pemuda cukup (Fighting the Youth chief is enough).

“Let’s go,” he tweeted in replying a tweet questioning whether Najib did not dare to have a debate with Anwar.

He again tweeted, in replying a retweet from Anwar: “Is that all you’ve got, Sir? Retweeting someone else’s words. You and me, Dato’ Seri. On the economy. Let’s debate.”

Anwar earlier said that criticism against Pakatan’s 100-day reform plan ignored the fact that the current administration had incurred increasing debt.

“I suggest an open debate between Pakatan and Umno so that the issue and statistics can be revealed to the people,” he said at a press conference here.

Anwar was responding to Najib’s comment on Monday that the Opposition’s 100-day proposed reform plan was not made based on reality because no mention is made of how these financial pledges would be fulfilled.
