JOHOR BARU: Parties contesting in the coming Tenang by-election have been reminded not to conduct any form of campaigning before nomination day on Jan 22.
Johor Election Commission (EC) director Othman Noh said that any sort of campaign before Jan 22 would be an offence under the Election Offences Act 1954.
He added that parties contesting in the by-election were only allowed to hold campaigns from Jan 22 until midnight on Jan 29.
“They must also get permits from the police if they intend to hold ceramah. They must also seek approval from the district council before putting up their banners,” he told reporters here yesterday.
Othman said nomination forms were already on sale but to date, nobody has bought any.
Othman said that the commission had also introduced several measures to ensure an 80% voter turnout on polling day on Jan 30.
“Our outreach group will open kiosks at Taman Tenang and at Jalan Penghulu Harun in Pekan Air Panas for the first week of January between 9am and 5pm.
“People can come and get their particulars, including their polling centres from the kiosks,” he said.
