SHAH ALAM: A police constable testified that multiple shots were fired from a patrol vehicle at the car Aminulrasyid Amzah was driving even after its tyre had been punctured.

Kons Mohd Izham Mahayadin told a Sessions Court here that after he shot at the car’s rear right tyre at the Kayangan roundabout, the white Proton Iswara driven by Aminulrasyid was swaying left and right along Persiaran Kayangan.

When the car turned into Jalan Tarian 11/2, another patrol car which had joined the chase suddenly opened fire, Kons Mohd Izham said.

“I was shocked because it was so sudden. It was one long stretch of rapid gunfire, like tup-tup-tup-tup, then there was a pause. Then tup-tup-tup-tup again,” he said.

Asked by deputy public prosecutor Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar if he knew who opened fire, Kons Mohd Izham said he did not know.

He was testifying in the trial of Kpl Jenain Subi, 48, who is charged with causing the death of Aminulrasyid, 15, along Jalan Tarian 11/2, Section 11, on April 26. Aminulrasyid died from a gunshot wound to the back of his head.

“I did not foresee that the patrol car behind us would open fire. The Iswara’s tyre was already punctured and we were just tailing the car as it did not seem like it could go anywhere,” Kons Mohd Izham said.

After the shooting, which lasted about 15 to 20 seconds, Kons Mohd Izham said he turned around and saw the patrol car with the call sign Selangor 614 on his left.

“The Iswara kept going straight until it went onto a curb and crashed into a wall,” he said.

After the crash, Kons Mohd Izham and Kpl Azhar Hashim got down from their vehicle and saw a man climbing out of a ditch where the Iswara had crashed.

“Kpl Azhar tried to arrest the man by handcuffing him but he started struggling and managed to get away. I chased him until Jalan Gamelan 11/2E before I stopped,” he said.

“Why did you stop chasing the man?” asked Mohd Dusuki.

“Because the sole of my boot came off. I just repaired it so it was not strong,” Kons Mohd Izham replied.

Aminulrasyid’s friend Mohd Azamuddin Omar had claimed that he was beaten up by policemen after he got out of the Iswara.

Asked if he had threatened to shoot as claimed by Mohd Azamuddin, Kons Mohd Izham said neither he nor his partner had pointed their weapons at the man who ran away.

“I returned to the scene of the incident and I met Kons Mohamad Hafizd Mohd Yusof and Kpl Jenain whom I now know were in Selangor 614,” said Kons Mohd Izham.

He said Kpl Jenain had moved the body of another man in the car to search for documents before informing the Shah Alam police dispatch centre and calling the ambulance.

“The body was left lying face down in the driver’s seat with the legs outside the car,” he told the court.

The hearing continues today.
