JOHOR BARU: Malaysians from all walks of life will be encouraged to walk their way to a healthy lifestyle in an event held to celebrate World Walking Day.
Nestle southern region sampling and events manager Soo Mey Chan said many Malaysians were now overweight.
“Walking is a small step towards encouraging Malaysians to lead an active lifestyle,” she said, adding that Nestle would be organising the nationwide celebration.
World Walking Day is actually celebrated on May 8 every year.
However, Soo said Nestle would be holding their celebration from Nov 21 with events kicking off in six different locations around the country simultaneously.
She said participants in the events would walk “3,000 steps”, which would be 30% of the 10,000 steps recommended for a healthy lifestyle each day.
She said the event for Johor Baru would start from 6.30am until 11.30am at Taman Sri Stulang.
The other five locations for the event are Taman Tasik Titiwangsa in Kuala Lumpur, Polo Ground, Jalan Sepoy Lane in Penang, Padang MPK1 in Kuantan, Penampang Sports Complex Stadium in Sabah and Waterfront, Kuching, in Sarawak.
Soo said besides demonstrations and talks, participants would also receive goody bags and t-shirts and be given a chance to take part in lucky draws.
