JOHOR BARU: About 80% of childcare centres have not registered with the Social Welfare Department, a situation which Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil has described as alarming.
She said the estimated 2,000 childcare centres should meet the requirements of the Fire and Rescue Department, the Health Department as well as the local councils before they can be registered with the department’s director-general. At present, only 413 centres were registered.
