KOTA BARU: The Syariah High Court conducted a closed-door hearing of an application to confirm the talak tiga (irrevocable divorce) declaration by the Sultan of Kelantan Sultan Ismail Petra Almarhum Sultan Yahya Petra to his second wife Elia Suhana Ahmad filed by one Datin Nik Rorhana Wan Abdul Rahman.

The application was filed by Syarie lawyer Zainul Rijal Abu Bakar on behalf of Nik Rorhana.

Defence counsel Fakhrul Azman Abu Hassan, who represented Elia Suhana, 31, said the defence had no objection and left it to the court to make a decision.

Syarie Judge Abdullah Man allowed the application by the plaintiff and ordered that the proceedings be conducted behind closed doors yesterday.

Zainul Rijal, met afterwards, said the plaintiff adduced three witnesses including Nik Rorhana, 60, at yesterday’s hearing, a practitioner of traditional medicine and an unnamed third witness.

It is learnt that Abdullah set June 30 and July 4 for resumption of the hearing for the plaintiff to adduce four more witnesses.

The Sultan is alleged to have made the divorce declaration when he was under treatment at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore, on Feb 12.

The Sultan married Elia Suhana at the end of 2007. – Bernama
