KUALA LUMPUR: Private companies should provide a women-friendly workplace by setting up creches in the office, said Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.
She said women could increase their productivity knowing that their children are well taken care of while they work.
“Mothers will be more at ease at work when they know their children are near them and are safe,” said the prime minister’s wife.
Rosmah was speaking to reporters after launching the Taska Permata Perkeso child care centre in Menara Perkeso here yesterday.
The centre minds 36 children while their parents, all Perkeso employees, are at work.
“I spoke to some mothers here and they are happy with the centre because they do not have to rely on untrained babysitters or maids,” said Rosmah, who is also Permata Negara Policy executive committee chairman.
She also said that the Pusat Permata Negara centre she promised to set up in Hulu Selangor would be implemented.
“My officers are currently looking for a suitable location for the centre,” she said, adding that about RM600,000 would be allocated for the premises while RM200,000 would be needed for the purchase of equipment.
