MEDAN: An average of one Malaysian man and an Indonesian woman from Sumatra have been getting married every day for the past five months, with 80% of the brides being second wives.
This statistic is based on records at the office of the Malaysian Consulate General here. Its vice-consul (consular and immigration division), Ismail Ali, said an average of 30 Malaysian men, most of them Muslims, married Indonesian women from Sumatra every month during the said period.
