KUALA LUMPUR: Wanita MCA under the new leadership of Datuk Yu Chok Tow can be united and move forward as a team, said its secretary-general Senator Heng Seai Kie.
“We have high expectations of Yu and we believe the wing will work well under her leadership,” she said, adding that the wing would also give full co-operation to the main body.
On former Wanita chief Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun’s decision to quit all party and government positions, Heng said Chew had given much thought and her action was not an impulsive move.
“We accept and respect her decision.
“However, we feel sad that she decided to leave because she had been our partner in our struggle for so long,” she told reporters after launching World of Creative, Innovative Education, Smart Kids 2010 – Malaysia’s ninth largest children’s education fair here yesterday.
Meanwhile, Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil described her former deputy Chew as “excellent”, adding that she would be greatly missed.
“I’d like to thank Chew for her service in the ministry. She did well with much dedication and commitment. She helped me a lot as a deputy.
“I respect her for being firm in her standing.
“It is hard to find someone like Chew,” Shahrizat said after launching the Women and the New Economic Model forum yesterday.
