Blogger remanded for four days

KOTA BARU: A blogger who allegedly insulted the late Sultan of Johor Sultan Iskandar ibni Almarhum Sultan Ismail has been remanded for four days from yesterday to facilitate in investigations.

Known as Aduka Taruna, the 28-year-old blogger who is also a graphic designer was produced before Magistrate Azrol Abdullah at about 9am.

He surrendered at the district police station here on Monday and is expected to be charged under Section 233 (3) of the Multimedia and Communications (MCMC) Act 1998.

He was later whisked into a police van and was believed to be heading for Johor Baru to assist the police there in their investigations.

In his entry, the blogger was said to have insulted the late Sultan that irked many people despite his apology.

His arrest was a result of a police report lodged against him in Muar immediately after his comments appeared on his blog.

In KUALA LUMPUR, Federal Commercial Crimes Director, Commissioner Datuk Koh Hong Sun, confirmed the arrest and remand of the blogger.

He said the blogger, who is believed to be involved in the film industry, was also being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act apart from the MCMC Act.

Meanwhile, Bernama reported that its Radio 24 newscaster Ibnu Khusairi Ibnu Aris had lodged a report at about 11.30pm at the Hulu Kelang police station over a video clip on Youtube that allegedly insulted the late Sultan.

He claimed to have seen the clip titled “Sultan Johor Remix” when he was in his house in Keramat on Saturday afternoon.

“The video clip showed the late Sultan at the opening of the Iskandar Development Region, and his voice had been dubbed into saying words which were not decent,” he told Bernama.

A spokesman at the Hulu Kelang police station, when contacted, confirmed receiving the report.
