Kedah Sultan wants people to improve their lives without fear

ALOR SETAR: The Sultan of Kedah, Tuanku Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah, wants the people to maintain peace and harmony in the country so that they can continue to improve their lives without any fear.

‘‘I believe the strong unity among the races can sustain the peace and harmony,” he said during the investiture ceremony held in conjunction with his 82nd birthday celebrations here yesterday.

“I also believe that we should show respect to one another and uphold the Constitution which protects the rights of all in the country.’’

Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak, in his speech, said the state government would not compromise with any party out to jeopardise the unity of the people.

He said as a government that upheld justice, everyone was treated equally so they would continue to lead comfortable lives.

The state would continue to instill the spirit of unity and understanding, so Kedahans would not be easily manipulated by negative factors that try to disrupt the peace and harmony, which was enjoyed by all, he said.

A total of 72 people received awards from the Sultan.

Among the recipients were Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Senator Mej-Jen Datuk Jamil Khir Baharom who received the Seri Setia di-Raja Kedah which carries the title Datuk Seri and Kedah police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Syed Ismail Syed Azizan who received the Darjah Gemilang Seri Mahkota Kedah which carries the title Datuk Wira.

Other recipients included the Naza Group joint group executive chairman and chief executive officer S.M. Faizal S.M. Najmuddin, Real Estate and Housing Deve-lopers Association national chairman Ricque Liew Yin Chew, Thong Guan Industries managing director Ang Poon Chuan and Weststar Group of Companies director Feroz A.S. Moidunny.

They received the award of Dato Setia di-Raja Kedah which carries the title Datuk.
