JOHOR BARU: The Prisons Department welcomes the proposals by Suhakam to install motion detectors and sensors as well as have medical checks for high-risk inmates in prisons nationwide as measures to prevent deaths of inmates.
However, such surveillance systems were subject to the approval of the Home Ministry and were not cheap to install, said department secretariat and public relations unit chief Supri Hashim, adding that a few prisons have such motion detectors but they were installed on the perimeter of the prisons to deter escape attempts.
