Octogenarian remembers the ‘orang putih’ of WWII


KOTA KINABALU: For octogenarian Domima OKK (Orang Kaya Kaya) Akoi, two gold rings – from an initial total of six – left by a group of scrawny and bearded Caucasian men in the jungles of interior Ranau more than 60 years ago are treasures.

It was during the last few days of World War II when the then 13-year-old Domima noticed pebbles being thrown out of the forest near her house as she was feeding the family’s livestock.
