Cops probe fatal crash involving patrol car

JOHOR BARU: A 49-year-old woman died after she was allegedly run over by a police patrol car in Batu Pahat.

The factory worker was on the way home at 8pm on Tuesday when the incident occurred at the 6th kilometre of the Kluang road.

She was crossing the road when she was allegedly run over by the patrol car.

The woman died on the spot from severe head injuries.

Johor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said a senior officer from the state police headquarters had been assigned to lead the investigations.

“We offer our condolences to the family. We will explore all angles in the investigations,” he told reporters yesterday.

He also advised the public to refrain from making speculations on the matter.

“Let the police investigate thoroughly. Speculations or rumours will not benefit any party,” he said.

DCP Mohd Mokhtar urged anyone with information to contact the police hotline at 07-2212 999 or the nearest police station.
