THE Federation of Chinese Association Malaysia or Huazong said it hoped that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and the new Cabinet members will bring development for the nation, Sin Chew Daily reported.

It also hoped that people of all races in the country would be looked after in a fair manner.

In a statement, the group said the Chinese representation in the Cabinet had increased with MCA having four ministers and seven deputy ministers and one minister from Gerakan.

“MCA and Gerakan can continue to play their role in the Barisan Nasional coalition,’’ it said.

Huazong said it hoped all Chinese ministers would be able to safeguard the interest of the community in the Cabinet.

It said Najib, who doubled up as the Finance Minister, showed he was determined and has placed the economic stimulus package to revive the economy as his priority.

> The daily also reported the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Indus-try of Malaysia (ACCCIM) urging the Government to speed up the implementation of various projects to revitalise the nation’s economy and lead the country out of the economic downturn.

In a statement to welcome the new Cabinet, ACCCIM president Tan Sri William Cheng said the manufacturing sector was hit hard by the economic slowdown.

He hoped that the new International Trade and Investment Minister Datuk Mustapa Mohamed would implement measures to help the sector reduce costs to enhance the country’s competitive edge.

“Mustapa, an economist, is experienced and familiar with industry issues,” Cheng said.

Cheng added that Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who is also Education Minister, would shoulder the heavy responsibility of raising the standard of mathematics, science and English in schools.
