GEORGE TOWN: Fire destroyed five houses at the Chew Jetty, just hours after some 10,000 people had gathered there to celebrate the Jade Emperor’s birthday on Monday night. Some residents who were trapped at the edge of the jetty were forced to escape in boats.
No casualty was reported, but some 20 people were made homeless in the blaze which started at 12.50am yesterday.
