PM: Malaysia won’t back off on defence spending

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will continue to improve its overall defence and security capabilities in the Straits of Malacca and east Malaysia even during challenging economic times, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said.

Citing the recent pirate attacks on two Malaysian oil tankers in the Gulf of Aden, Abdullah said Malaysia needed to be prepared for any eventuality and any security challenge anywhere in the world.
