PETALING JAYA: PKR Youth aims to attract 70% of the expected two million young voters that will be eligible to vote in the next general election.

They are also proposing that PKR women members aged below 35 be automatically roped in as Youth members.

Youth chief Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin said strengthening the wing to attract more young people was among the main motions to be discussed during their ninth national level congress on Friday.

Others include a political motion to enhance the party’s performance and strategy and an economic motion to discuss the impact of the financial crisis on youths as well as Pakatan Rakyat’s proposed RM1,500 minimum wage plan. “Our main message to the delegates is not to be complacent but to deliver to the people, he said at a press conference yesterday.

The youth wing, he said, hoped to draw more women and increase its membership to 500,000 next year. It currently has 200,000 members.
