Govt grants only for registered youth bodies

ALL youth organisations have to be registered with the Registrar of Societies by the end of the year before they can apply for financial aid from the Youth and Sports Ministry, reported Tamil Nesan.

Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ismail Sabri Yaakob was quoted saying that the ministry would only consider giving monetary grants to registered organisations.

He said there were about 11 million youths in the country and only 10% are members of youth organisations. He urged the organisations to attract more youngsters.

Measures to counter retrenchment amid economic crisis

> Tamil Nesan quoted Human Resources Minister Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam as saying that the Government will introduce measures to counter the possibility of employers retrenching their workers due to the global economic crisis.

The Government is preparing a method to prevent workers from being retrenched, he said, adding that he had instructed the Manpower Department to assist companies facing difficulties to identify their problems.
