The Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) hosted buka puasa for 30 orphans from Baitul Fitrah Bandar Country Homes, Rawang, at the council building in Bandar Baru Selayang recently.

Held at the MPS building lobby last Thursday (Sept 18), the simple but meaningful event catered for more than 300 staff members, their family members, councillors and state assemblymen.

Among those present were Batu Caves assemblyman Amirudin Shari, MPS president Zainal Abidin Azim and MPS deputy president Jamri Basni.

Amirudin and Zainal presented duit raya of RM50 to each orphan while five hampers were donated by Tesco.

Unlike some councils, the event cost the council only RM21 per head. The food served consist of rice, chicken soup, sambal belacan, fish sambal, mutton curry, two vegetable dishes, traditional Malay kueh, fruits and sirap drinks.

Amirudin said he hoped MPS would organise similar events for charity and the community to get rid of the public’s bad impression about the council.
