KOTA BARU: Pulau Kapas Umno branch head Yaakob Mamat has lodged a report with the Anti-Corruption Agency, claiming that Datuk Zaid Ibrahim is being sabotaged from contesting the post of Kota Baru division chief.
He said there were people attempting to stop branch meetings if they supported Zaid, who is Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department.
“They are using gangster tactics and paying money to branch members and observers to ensure the meetings are void,” he said.
Zaid was Kota Baru division head before his party membership was suspended for 18 months from Jan 1, 2007. He is now challenging the division’s acting head, Datuk Mohd Fatmi Salleh.
Yaakob said 91 of 116 branches in the Kota Baru division had held their meetings.
So far, Zaid has obtained 19 nominations to head the division and needs five more to be eligible to contest while Fatmi has secured enough nominations, he said. – Bernama
