KUALA LUMPUR: Those who registered their businesses with the Companies Commission of Malaysia (CCM) yesterday had the numbers 08.08.08 appearing on the certificate of incorporation to commemorate the special day appearing every 100 years.
“The numbers 08.08.08 will appear prominently on the certificates as the incorporation date. We came up with the offer in response to requests from businessmen,” said a CCM officer.
There was no additional charge for the registration.
The officer added that CCM first came up with the specially-printed certificates for the registration date of Aug 31 last year, to celebrate the country’s 50th anniversary of independence.
Response was overwhelming, hence the decision for another special registration date, this time for 08.08.08.
The officer said CCM also opened for tender last month the booking of special numbers for company registration. The booking is based on the current sequence of running numbers.
CCM’s registration of companies had reached about 826,000.
Other hot numbers expected to be offered for tender are 833,333, 855,555, 888,888, and 999,999.
“We will inform the public when the tenders come up. Demand has always been good because businessmen have their reasons for wanting such numbers,” said the officer.
“Some want certain numbers for keepsake, or to remember special occasions, while the Chinese like the '8' series for its prosperity connotation.”
