KUALA LUMPUR: The report that was the basis of a notice to Suhakam of a possible downgrade of its international accreditation was not an attack on the national human rights institution.

Suara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram) executive director Yap Swee Seng said the possible downgrade by the International Coordinating Committee of National Institutions for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights (ICC) was an opportunity for Suhakam to get the Government to amend the Suhakam Act 1999.
