JOHOR BARU: Three men were caught red-handed as they tried to break into a facility housing a telecommunications transmitter.
Acting on a tip off, police rushed to the transmitter in Kangkar Pulai and caught the three men while they were cutting the fence, at 12.20am Saturday. However, two other men escaped.
Nusajaya OCPD Supt Abd Aziz Ahmad said police believed that the suspects, aged between 18 and 25, were involved in at least five cases of aluminium theft in the area.
“We also seized two stolen motorcycles from the suspects. We have identified the other two accomplices and launched a manhunt,” he said, adding that the case was classified under Section 379 of the Penal Code for robbery.
In another incident, a 45-year-old Indonesian man, believed to be a member of a robbery gang, was detained by police while three others escaped following a police raid.
The suspect was detained in Tanjung Kupang at a house in Tanjung Kupang about 11.30am here Saturday.
Supt Abd Aziz said the gang was responsible for multiple house break-ins and other robbery cases in Tanjung Kupang and Gelang Patah in the past two months.
“We believe the other three members, aged between 30 and 45, are also Indonesians.
