Young girl chokes to death on jelly

SETIU: A three-year-old girl choked to death after a piece of jelly became lodged in her throat in her house in Kampung Seri Bangun, Sungai Tong here late last night. Nor Akidah Yaacob died on the way to the Seri Langkap clinic here at about 9pm. Her father, Yaacob Jusoh, 37, said his daughter could have tried to swallow the entire piece without chewing. “I was away at the time but my wife was at home nursing her,” he said. Kamariah Na Ngah, 35, saw her daughter struggling to breathe and with the help of neighbours rushed her to the clinic but she could not be saved. Yaacob said the jelly was bought from a nearby grocery shop and Nor Akidah could have eaten it without her mother’s knowledge.
