KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Rakyat states have been urged not to sabotage activities or programmes carried out by the Tourism Ministry.

Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said she was told that in Langkawi, the state authorities carried out raids at entertainment outlets during the recent Langkawi Water Festival.

“We have invested a lot for such tourism activities, and it is not proper for anyone to disrupt our programmes,” she told reporters after meeting the general managers of the Tourism Action Councils (PTAs) nationwide.

It is learnt that the Kedah state authorities had been conducting Ops Noda Khas since April 2, the first day of the three-day water festival, and had been harassing patrons at KTV lounges, pubs and bistros.

Azalina assured the governments of the five Pakatan states that there was no discrimination by the Federal Government in these states.

She said that although the memorandum of understanding with the state governments would be terminated given the change in leadership, that did not mean that these states were being sidelined.

Azalina said the meeting with the general managers was fruitful, and they discussed various issues including the direction of the ministry in promoting eco-tourism.
