SIBU: The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) has thrown the gauntlet.

Either back the Barisan Nasional candidates in the Sibu and Lanang parliamentary constituencies and solve the flood problem once and for all, or continue to suffer by siding with DAP at the polls Saturday

Barisan candidate for Sibu Datuk Robert Lau Hoi Chew urged voters to back the coalition so that the RM400mil flood mitigation project approved under the Ninth Malaysia Plan could be implemented.

“The people (of Sibu) must think carefully. If you don’t vote for Barisan, then the allocation may be given to other areas with Barisan MPs.

“It is your choice – go with DAP and continue to play in the water or solve the flood problem with Barisan,” he said at a press conference yesterday.

Floods have been a major issue during the election campaign in low-lying Sibu, and memories of the unprecedented floods on Dec 12 are still fresh in the voters’ minds.
