MIRI: The bitter political rivalry between the Sarawak DAP and Sarawak United Peoples Party (SUPP) has become very visible with their candidates squaring off against each other via huge billboards.
The two sworn political enemies are engaging in a tit-for-tat billboard war, trying to outshine each other by trading visual political tirades along highways, roundabouts and public markets.
For example, the two parties are trying to not only outdo each other with words here, but also with the size and height of the billboards!
It began with the SUPP putting up huge posters and billboards on the day after nomination day, with messages to the voters urging them to vote for SUPP to ensure progress.
The DAP responded by erecting even taller billboards right next to SUPPs billboards, with slogans urging voters here to vote for a younger, energetic and vibrant DAP.
The SUPP immediately took down their billboards, and erected more colourful and bigger billboards saying that Miri was already energised and vibrant.
The DAP have now also changed the size and colour of their billboards to look just like the SUPP billboards!
Yesterday, the SUPP erected fresh billboards along the Miri-Brunei highway where DAP deputy secretary-general Fong Pau Teck had stood in the middle of road and at traffic light junctions waving and greeting motorists over the past few days.
These SUPP billboards carried messages hitting out at Fong.
Fong has responded by purposely campaigning below the SUPP billboards and standing on the top of a Land Cruiser to greet motorists during peak hours.
These antics are getting sillier by the day, observed a lecturer.
SUPP and DAP are fighting for supremacy in all the seven urban parliamentary seats of Bandar Kuching, Stampin, Serian, Sarikei, Sibu, Lanang and Miri.
