KUALA LUMPUR: PAS vice-president Mohamad Sabu and Parti Keadilan Rakyat supreme council member Dr Badrul Amin Bahrun, together with 10 women and a youth, were charged in the Sessions Court with participating in an illegal assembly on Saturday and refusing to heed orders from the authorities to disperse.
Twenty-one other men were charged with committing the same offences. All claimed trial.
Also in the same court, Malaysiakini journalist Syed Jaymal Zahiid Syed Kamal, 29, was charged with obstructing a policeman from carrying out his duties during the illegal rally. He claimed trial.
Apart from the politicians, the others charged included labourers, traders and students.
All of them are accused of having participated in an illegal gathering near KLCC in Jalan Ampang here between 1.30pm and 4.30pm on Saturday.
Judge Mohamad Sekeri Mamat granted all the accused bail at RM1,000 each in one surety with a further condition that they should not participate in any illegal rallies until their cases are heard on June 16 to 18.
