IPOH: It was a quiet affair when Batu Gajah MP Fong Po Kuan tied the knot with Johor DAP organising secretary Tan Chen Choon.

Solemnised by Ipoh Chin Woo Association’s assistant registrar Datuk Ooi Foh Sing, the couple exchanged vows and wedding rings at a brief ceremony held here yesterday attended by their family members and friends.

Dressed in a white wedding gown, the 34-year-old Fong said it was a happy occasion for both of them.

Just married: Tan kissing Fong on the cheek aftertheir marriage was solemnised in Ipoh yesterday.

The two-term Batu Gajah MP said a dinner would be held for family members soon while the traditional tea ceremony would be held in Johor on Jan 19.

However, Fong and insurance agent Tan declined to take questions on their future plans in setting up a family or about their political careers.

“We will have to see the situation first,” said Fong when asked about the number of children they were planning to have.

On whether her wedding had any bearing on her political career or if she would contest in the next general election, Fong said: “I will answer that next time.”

When asked if she would be spending more time in Johor, Fong said: “I want to stress that my commitment and responsibility is here. We have come out with an arrangement.”

On why she selected the 37-year-old Tan to be her husband and what his strengths were, Fong replied: “It is our secret.”
