Steroid king detained

THE “steroid king” has been detained and more than 100 types of traditional medicine from China, suspected of containing banned steroids, and worth more than RM1mil have been seized. 

The 60-year-old man was believed to have been smuggling in the illegal items for the past 15 years, the Harian Metro front-paged.  

A team of Health Ministry pharmaceutical enforcement officers raided a shop and the man’s house where thousands of boxes containing unregistered traditional products labelled in Chinese were seized. 

They included Chi Sing Char, Shuangliao, fish oil, Chinese garlic tablets and ginseng extract. 

The team also recovered several false registration sticker numbers.  

A total of 2.2 million fake holograms and medical tags, said to have been printed overseas, were also seized from the premises.  

The man is believed to have used the stickers to fool buyers and distributors in the Klang Valley, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Malacca and Johor. 

He will be charged under the Controlled Drugs and Cosmetics regulations 1984 and, if convicted, could be jailed up to three years, fined RM25,000 or both.  

He could also be charged under the Poison Act 1952 (Amendment 1989) and, if convicted, faces a RM5,000 fine, two-year jail term or both.

She said Dr Sheikh Muszaphar had been her senior at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. The friendship developed when he became her tutor, she revealed. 

Despite his celebrity status, she was confident that all would be well with them as they shared a great deal of understanding and trust. 

She said that she would let the families decide on the date of their engagement.
