THE Foreign Ministry will look into the case of a Swiss national who has come to Malaysia to seek help in getting custody of his second daughter, its parliamentary secretary Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek said.
He said the ministry would be looking into Omar Abdullah's plight from two angles religion and human rights.
We are concerned because the girl, who is now 15, is a Malaysian, he said yesterday after meeting Omar at Parliament. Omar was brought by Datuk Md Alwi Che Ahmad (BN - Ketereh).
Omar married Nur Aishah Teow Abdullah in 1990 and she gave birth to their first daughter in Switzerland in 1991 and the second daughter in Malacca in 1992.
The marriage turned sour later and they divorced in December 1993.
The Kota Baru Lower Syariah Court granted him custody of the two children Imane Saphia Imhof, now 16, and Latifa Sara Imhof, 15.
In March 1994, Nur Aishah challenged the decision in a Swiss Civil Family Court, which awarded her custody of the two girls.
