KUALA LUMPUR: The Vehicle Theft Reduction Council of Malaysia Berhad will co-ordinate the formation of a National Vehicle Theft Information Exchange.

Its chairman, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Najib Abdul Aziz, said the exchange would provide a platform for all parties to share information on stolen vehicles for theft detection, deterrence and to prevent the sale of stolen vehicles.

In a statement released by Persatuan Insurans Am Malaysia (PIAM), he said the council would be undertaking and coordinating motor vehicle theft prevention.

“The council will submit proposals for change across government and non-government sectors for action to reduce motor vehicle theft.

“It will also provide advice and recommendations to the authorities on motor vehicle theft prevention,” he said.

He added that the council was also undertaking and co-ordinating public education campaigns to raise awareness on motor vehicle theft prevention.
