KUCHING: Police arrested a Sarawak gang leader named in the Ops Cantas Kenyalang list at a condominium in Cheras in Kuala Lumpur.
The 38-year-old suspect known as Ah Nong was active in Kampung Heng Hua, a fishing village in Bintawa, and his gang was believed to have been involved in various crimes including extortion, assault and diesel smuggling.
Sarawak CID chief SAC II Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah said the suspect, who was from Sungai Sadit, Sibu, was arrested by Bukit Aman police at about 12.40pm yesterday.
“The gang leader is believed to have fled to the peninsula in July after police detected his illegal activities,” he told Bernama.
The suspect was in the condominium with his girlfriend during the raid.
Tun Hisan said the suspect was the 23rd gang leader arrested since police launched the Ops Cantas Kenyalang crackdown on gangsterism in Sarawak in April.
The provision allows the police to detain a suspect for 60 days without trial.
