KOTA KINABALU: The people of Sabah and Sarawak celebrated Malaysia Day in grand fashion Sunday.
In Sabah, celebrations that marked the formation of Malaysia in 1963 were most significant in a village on the foothills of Mount Kinabalu where people had defied a ban on growing rubber trees and broke the British monopoly of the crop.
