KOTA KINABALU: The promise of a "picnic" and a two-day trip to a Philippine island near Sabah turned into a nine-month ordeal for an oil palm estate worker from the Kinabatangan east coast district.
Instead of a brief stay at the Philippine island of Taganak in January, 21-year-old Sidek Sariman ended up being holed up there till he was brought back to Sabah on Thursday.
