Bid to control quality and services of pathology labs

AFTER a 20-year wait, the Pathology Laboratory Bill 2007 was tabled in Parliament to govern the private pathology lab sector. There are now 200 private standalone pathology labs and 90 labs at private hospitals in the country. 

However, some MPs such as Hamim Samuri (BN – Ledang) and Datuk Dr Rahman Ismail (BN – Gombak) raised concerns of a monopoly and whether the law was enough to prevent the commercialisation of these labs for making profits.
