KUALA LUMPUR: Police in Cheras here busted a gang of kidnappers who were holding a businessman for ransom and seized an assortment of weapons, including two stun guns.

The four-man gang abducted the man from his home in Ketumbar Hill Condominium at 2pm on Wednesday.

They beat up his son and took the 49-year-old victim away to a house in Bukit Mewah, where he was handcuffed and held captive. They also stole RM7,000 from his house. They then called the son, demanding ransom.

The son contacted the police and, on their advice, negotiated for seven hours before settling on RM15,000 as ransom. He also arranged a drop-off point in Cheras where the gang could pick up their loot.

It is believed that police tailed the kidnappers back to their hideout from there.

OCPD Asst Comm Rusli Ahmad said the raiding team arrested four men in the house and caught five more people close by. The suspects were aged between 25 and 48.

Police also seized various items, including weapons, drugs, a forged police authority card and a Honda CRV believed used in the abduction.

“Initial investigations indicate the victim knew his kidnappers,” ACP Rusli said.

It is believed that the man was kidnapped after a business dispute.
