Sarawak police bust notorious gang

KUCHING: Police have busted the notorious Sibu-based Hup Kee gang with the arrest of 11 people. 

Sarawak Commissioner of Police Dep Comm Datuk Talib Jamal said the leader of the gang had been taken into custody following a raid on his house in Sibu early Tuesday morning. 

Ten gang members including a woman were also arrested during the raid. 

Police found a mortar bomb and a large stash of firecrackers in the house. 

"We are now investigating possible offences committed by the gang from the evidence that we have collected," he told reporters after attending the monthly parade at state police headquarters here on Wednesday. 

He added that police intelligence indicated that the gang had been involved in a kidnapping case in Sibu recently and various other illegal activities.
