KUALA LUMPUR: Former Federal Court judge Datuk Abdul Kadir Sulaiman is the Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Tribunal pro tem committee chairman.

He is also a member of the Council of Advisors to the Regent of Terengganu.

Other members of the pro tem committee include lawyers Tunku Datuk Dr Sofiah Jewa and Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof, former Court of Appeal judge Datuk Mohd Saari Yusoff, Mara University of Technology’s professor of law Prof Shad Faruqi, former Industrial court chairman Mohd Noor Yahya and international lawyer Alfred Lambremont Webre.

Others are retired Federal Court judge Datuk Abu Mansor Ali, legal advisor to the Palestine Liberation Organisation on the Creation of the State of Palestine Prof Francis A. Boyle, and former law faculty deputy dean at the International Islamic University Prof Salleh Buang, who were not present at War Crimes Commission preliminary proceedings for various reasons.

Abdul Kadir said that the number of members in the pro tem committee was not final, adding that they would be searching for eminent jurists so that the tribunal would be properly represented.

“Though strictly this is not a court of law where we can pronounce our judgement, but at the very least, we have to do something. We have to see what we can do without fear or favour, and we must not decide based on sympathy,” he said.
