TO THE uninitiated, Umno seemed to have hurled more fire and brimstone towards the other races than ever before. What made matters worse was that while RTM confined itself to the sedate opening and closing addresses, Astro telecast the entire proceedings live. 

So much so that its deputy president Datuk Seri Abdul Najib Tun Razak has proposed that no more live telecasts be allowed, an admission that a multi-racial public may not be ready to hear the sabre-rattling, ultra-Malay rhetoric from the floor.
