PARENTS must closely monitor their children’s participation in educational activities. They must motivate and encourage their children to achieve greater success in their education, Malaysia Nanban reported.

Gopal Perumal, a lecturer from a private college, said this at the recent Parents Awareness Seminar organised by Kuala Selangor MIC, which was attended by about 100 parents.

Makkal Osai reported that MTUC secretary-general G. Rajasekaran expressed his surprise that medical certificates were being issued and signed by medical assistants in government hospitals and clinics.

He said he would raise this matter with the Human Resource and Health ministries.

He was commenting on an Industrial Court decision where an application by Ramli Zainal, a golf club employee in Nilai, whose medical leave for May 16 and 17 issued by the Government hospital in Palong, Gemas, was signed by a medical assistant.

The court said that only a doctor was authorised to sign medical certificates.
