KOTA KINABALU: Change your ways, not your party.
This was Parti Bersatu Sabah president Datuk Joseph Pairin Kitingan’s advice to his politically estranged younger brother.
Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, who has been in and out of PBS at least three times in the last decade, now wants to join Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).
Pairin said Dr Jeffrey, who once headed the PBS-led state Government think tank, was always talking about changes which was no longer a relevant issue.
“We have a new Government, a new Prime Minister, a new policy and direction under the 9th Malaysia Plan, and a budget under which the government is balancing key issues,” said Pairin, a Deputy Chief Minister, at a function on Tuesday.
He said Dr Jeffrey’s decision to join PKR would not raise a flutter, as “the people already know Dr Jeffrey’s personality.”
The PBS has rejected Dr Jeffrey, so too has others parties in the Barisan Nasional.
Dr Jeffrey is expected to join PKR later this week in his hometown and Pairin’s political base, Tambunan.
