KLANG: A security guard has been sentenced to 33 years' jail and six strokes of the rotan for raping his neighbour’s daughter eight years ago.

Abdul Samad Abdul Ghani, 34, raped the girl, then 15, twice over two days, which led to her pregnancy. The baby was given up for adoption.

“You destroyed her future. The court has to consider the serious consequence of your action,” said Sessions Court judge Noradidah Ahmad when passing sentence yesterday.

According to the statement of the facts, Abdul Samad had grabbed the girl while she was walking home in Kuala Langat at 2pm on July 29, 1998.

He raped her and did the same thing the next day at the same place and time.

She lodged a police report after giving birth to a baby boy nine months later.

Abdul Samad was charged under Section 376 of the Penal Code on Sept 3, 1999 and acquitted on July 28, 2002.

The prosecution appealed against the acquittal, following which the High Court struck it out and directed Abdul Samad to enter his defence on Aug 11, 2004.

Noradidah sentenced Abdul Samad to 16 years' jail and three strokes of the rotan for the first charge and 17 years' jail and another three strokes of the rotan for the second charge.

Both sentences are to run consecutively from Aug 11, 2004.
