Leaders must be grateful to wives

PENANG: Leaders must not forget the contributions of their wives who supported them in their efforts to build the nation, said Datin Paduka Seri Rosmah Mansor, wife of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. 

“Wives of leaders play a part in helping the community to progress. 

Rosmah: ‘We can help diffusetension between leaders’

“We can help diffuse tension and solve problems between leaders because we can talk to our husbands,” she said at the annual gathering of wives of elected representatives from around the country at Penang International Sports Arena.  

The event, hosted by the Association of Wives of Penang State Assemblymen and MPs, (Persatuan Bunga Tanjung), was opened by Penang Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon yesterday. 

Participants comprised of members from Baidunita, Baiduri, Bakisa, Bakti, Balkis, Bidara, Bistari, Bunga Tanjung, Juita, Pekerti, Penawar, Sabati, Serikandi and Teratai - the associations of elected representatives’ wives from all over the country. 

Rosmah, who is Bakti acting president, said that the annual event was important because it gave the wives an opportunity to meet up and get to know each other better. 

“By playing badminton, bowling, darts, carom and congkak, we will be able to have fun and forge a stronger bond,” she said. 

In her speech, Persatuan Bunga Tanjung and event chairman Puan Sri Chui Kah Peng thanked government bodies and sponsors for their assistance in making the event a success.
