KUALA LUMPUR: More than 2,000 people attended the launch of the CIMB Group and its new logo by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
The launch of the new entity marked the culmination of the three-way merger of the Commerce International Merchant Bankers Bhd, Bumiputra-Commerce Bank Bhd and Southern Bank Bhd.
CIMB chief executive Datuk Nazir Razak said the new entity would have three new avenues to connect with different customers.
CIMB Bank (consumer bank) sports a red coloured logo, CIMB Investment Bank sports a blue version of the same logo while CIMB Islamic sports a green one.
After the launch, Abdullah opened the new bank's first branch at Starhill Gallery here.
Abdullah was also the first customer to open an account with CIMB Bank and the first member of CIMB Club, the bank's priority banking service.
The group expects to open branches at The Curve in Petaling Jaya, Genting Highlands, Serdang Perdana and Bukit Tinggi by the end of the year.
