SEREMBAN: The public have been told not to send tip-offs to Rakan Cop in Chinese via SMS.

Negri Sembilan police chief Senior Asst Comm I Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar said they do not have the infrastructure as well as personnel to read Chinese SMSes.

"We do not have many Chinese police personnel in the state. Besides, we are also facing difficulties recruiting Chinese into the force," he said.

A recruitment drive for male constables was held at the district police headquarters here over the past three days. Of the more than 300 applicants, fewer than 10 were Chinese.

SAC Khalid urged the people not to delay informing police of a crime.

"Some victims call us a few hours after an incident. Inform us quickly and we will respond quickly,” he told reporters after launching the Rakan Cop Programme at Seremban Specialist Hospital here Thursday.

SAC Khalid said a total of 2,430 people have become members of the state Rakan Cop as of Sept 5.

He said police have so far received 1,051 tips on crime activities through the programme.
