SEREMBAN: Police have smashed a syndicate involved in illegal four-digit lottery activities with the arrest of five people.
State CID chief Asst Comm Huzir Mohamed said a police team headed by Asst Supt Lim Moi Seng had, acting on a tip-off, raided a building in Jalan Tok Ungku here.
He said police detained the five suspects, aged between 20 and 62, during the 3.20pm raid on Monday.
He said initial investigations showed that the syndicate received bets totalling more than RM3.5mil a month.
“We believe their customers were from Negri Sembilan, Malacca and Johor,” he said, adding that the syndicate had also been involved in illegal money-lending activities.
ACP Huzir said police, had seized, among other things, RM12,900, some papers containing four-digit numbers, which were said to be betting slips, handphones and cash cheques of various banks totalling RM250,000.
